Jack Kirkpatrick is Professor of Ceramics at South Suburban College.
I teach because I believe in the greatness of education, as my mom always used to say, “They can never take your education away from you”.
Education is the surest way to change your world for the better
It allows us to understand many things, “big doors swing on little hinges”, is one of my favorite aphorisms and education is the little hinge, which gives insight and understanding and freedom and the ability to make rational decisions about our lives.
I feel fortunate to live in a country that places such value upon the education of its citizens. I believe The Enlightenment is embodied in our country and our dedication to education using the rational principles espoused in Europe during this period of the 17th & 18th centuries are embedded in our national character.
As an educator this big picture ideal gives me hope and enthusiasm for teaching my students who will lead our country and humanity.
